Lockjaw Top 10s – 2018

2018 has been an incredible year for punk rock! At Lockjaw we’ve had the pleasure of releasing new music from Fair Do’s, Drones, Misgivings, The Affect Heuristic, Money Left To Burn, Waterweed and Fullcount, plus represses of Rebuke and Darko.

We’ve been even more excited to hear some of the amazing records produced, so we thought we’d share our Top 10s with you. If you want to check out all our recommendations, we’ve made you a hot Spotify playlist with all our favourite choices. Read on for details.

There were waaaaaay too many stunning albums to list here. I’ve done a ‘punk rock’ Top 10 over on my website Shout Louder however my ‘real’ Top 10 includes a much more diverse range of genres. Also, I’ve excluded it here as we released it, it’s also worth noting that Leopards by Fair Do’s is by far my album of the year – I think I must have listened to Leopards  500+ times. Obsessed!

  • Kali Uchis – Isolation
  • Goodbye Blue Monday – Misery Punk Ruined My Life
  • Main Line 10 – The Fox
  • Svalbard – It’s Hard To Have Hope
  • Ducking Punches – Alamort
  • Forever Unclean – Woof
  • Youth Avoiders – Relentless
  • Jorja Smith – Lost & Found
  • Triple Sundae – Peace of Mind
  • Tim Loud – Salvation

I make top 10 lists all the time. Actually, it’s right on top of my 10 things I don’t like. Too much choice. So many albums worth mentioning. Anyways, here are mine. In no particular order of course. And with the necessary oddball in it. I should’ve added The Affect Heuristic, but people said it could be a bit too much. Also, we can’t include Lockjaw bands.

  • Forever Unclean – Woof
  • The Human Project – Clarion Call
  • Turnstile – Time & Space
  • Invalids – Fulfillment EP
  • Clever Girl – No Drum and Bass In The Jazz Room
  • PMX – Clochridgestone
  • Paul Severs – Ik Droom Steeds Van Een Wit Kerstfeest
  • Plini – Sunhead
  • Goodbye Blue Monday – Misery Punk Ruined My Life
  • Nate Smith – Pocket Change (thanks, Ewan)

Honorable mentions

  • Fair Do’s – Leopards

Looking forward to:

  • New Dankeschatz
  • New The Affect Heuristic

There’s loads of other great albums that I’ve shorted about this year on Lockjaw and other rad labels and a lot of them have come up on the other top 10 but I thought I’d mention some that may be less obvious or I haven’t tried to sell y’all. mega lolz.

Here’s a list of 10 of the albums that I’ve listened to this year. These were the most memorable and had some good ear worms in them. Variety seems to be the spice of my life. There were lots of other releases that I’d love to mention (Lockjaw and others) but they’re telling me I can pick only 10….

  • Black Peaks – All That Divides
  • Turnstile – Time & Space
  • The Human Project – Clarion Call
  • Bleeding Through – Love Will Kill All
  • Janelle Monae – Dirty Computer
  • A Perfect Circle – Eat The Elephant
  • Ducking Punches – Alamort
  • IDLES – Joy As An Act Of Resistance
  • Rolo Tomassi – Time Will Die & Love Will Bury It
  • Andrew W.K. – You’re Not Alone
